Secure your 1Password account

Step 1: Make sure you can sign in to your 1Password account

  1. Try to sign in to your account on 1Password.com in a web browser.
    1. If you can sign in to your account on 1Password.com, continue to step 2.
    2. If you can’t sign in to your account on 1Password.com but you can unlock the 1Password app on at least one of your devices, continue to step 2.
    3. If you can’t sign in to your account on 1Password.com or unlock the 1Password app on any of your devices, contact 1Password Support for help.

Step 2: Verify your trusted devices and browsers

You can check which devices have signed in to your 1Password account on 1Password.com or in the 1Password apps. If you find any devices you don’t recognize, deauthorize them.

On 1Password.com

  1. Sign in to your 1Password account on 1Password.com.
  2. Select your name in the top right corner and choose My Profile.
  3. Locate the Trusted Devices and Browsers section in your profile.
    1. If you recognize the devices in the list, you can stop here.
    2. If you find any devices you don’t recognize, select next to the device and select Deauthorize Device. Then continue to step 3.

In the 1Password apps

  1. Open and unlock 1Password.
  2. Select the icon for your account or collection at the top of the app window and choose Manage Accounts.
  3. Select your account, then choose Trusted Devices and Browsers.
    1. If you recognize the devices in the list, you can stop here.
    2. If you find any devices you don’t recognize, select next to the device and select Deauthorize Device. Then:
      1. If you can sign in to your account on 1Password.com, continue to step 3.
      2. If you can’t sign in to your account on 1Password.com, contact 1Password Support for help.

Step 3: Change your 1Password account password and Secret Key

If you found trusted devices or browsers you don’t recognize, follow these steps from the My Profile section of your 1Password.com account:

  1. Select Regenerate Secret Key and follow the onscreen instructions to change your Secret Key.
  2. Download a new copy of your Emergency Kit when prompted, but don’t fill in the account password field yet.
  3. Select Change Password and follow the onscreen instructions to change your 1Password account password. You’ll be prompted to download another copy of your new Emergency Kit, but you’ll only need to use one.
  4. Choose either copy of your new Emergency Kit and fill in your new account password. Then save your completed Emergency Kit and store it safely.

The next time you access 1Password on your devices, you’ll need to reauthorize them with your new account credentials.

You can optionally turn on two-factor authentication to use an authentication code or security key to sign in to your 1Password account, in addition to your account password and Secret Key.
