With 1Password Business, you can use a policy to enforce how 1Password locks and unlocks on your team members' devices. Your selections will apply where team members use their business accounts, like in the 1Password apps, in the browser extension, and on 1Password.com.
You can manage this policy if you’re an owner, administrator, or part of a group with the Manage Settings permission.
Manage the policy
To manage the unlock and auto-lock policy:
- Sign in to your account on 1Password.com.
- Select Policies in the sidebar.
- Select Manage policies on the Authentication policy.
You’ll find the policy options to enable security review and enforce specific settings in the “Unlock and auto-lock” section.
Enable security review for team members
You can choose to turn on the security review feature for your team. This option will allow them to pick from the following presets in the 1Password apps and browser extensions to quickly configure their unlock and auto-lock settings:
- Convenient: 1Password locks and unlocks when your team members lock and unlock their devices.*
- Balanced: When your team members unlock 1Password, it’ll stay unlocked for up to 8 hours on Mac and Windows and up to 10 minutes on mobile.
- Strict: 1Password locks when not in use. Team members must unlock it each time.
* 1Password for Linux must still be unlocked separately from your device.
Tip
If you also enforce specific unlock and auto-lock settings, your team members can still select these presets, but any enforced settings will still take precedence.
Enforce specific settings
You can also choose to allow your team to control their own unlock and auto-lock preferences or to enforce specific settings in the following platform categories:
- Desktop: These settings affect 1Password for Mac, Windows, and Linux*.
- Mobile: These settings affect 1Password for iOS and Android.
- Web app: These settings affect the experience on 1Password.com.
- Browser extension: These settings affect the 1Password browser extension.
* In 1Password for Linux, only auto-lock settings will be enforced at this time.
Select Enforce specific settings to get started. After you finish making changes, select Done, then select Save. Your team members will see the enforced settings as they continue using 1Password.
Get help
If your team members don’t see enforced settings in the 1Password apps, make sure that 1Password is up to date. If the issue persists, you may need quit and restart 1Password:
- On Mac, select the 1Password icon in the menu bar and choose Quit.
- On Windows, select the select the ellipsis at the top of the 1Password sidebar and choose Quit.
- On iOS and Android, remove 1Password from the App Switcher or “Recent apps” list.
If you also enforce unlock or auto-lock settings using a mobile device management solution, selections in this policy will take precedence over any mobile device management policies.
