Unlock 1Password with SSO on a new device

Learn how to link apps and browsers to your account so you can unlock 1Password with your identity provider.

When your organization unlocks 1Password with SSO, you’ll link your first app or browser to your account the first time you sign up or switch to unlock with SSO. You can then use this app or browser to verify new apps or browsers, like when you set up 1Password on a new device. The verification process is an essential part of making sure the secrets you store in 1Password are safe and end-to-end encrypted. Learn more about the security of linked apps and browsers.

When you unlock with SSO, there are some things to consider:

  • You must be using 1Password 8 for Mac, iOS, Windows, Android, or Linux to unlock with SSO.
  • If you sign out of your only linked app or browser, you won’t be able to access your account. You can contact your team administrator to recover your account. The browser you use to complete account recovery will become your first linked browser, which you can use to verify new devices.
  • If you’re signed out of your account after you close your browser, your IT team may have a policy to clear your browsing data when you close your browser, which removes your 1Password account details. Learn how to get help with this issue.
  • If you want to sign in to 1Password.com in your browser on a mobile device, you’ll need to use the 1Password app on a different device to approve the sign in.

If you don’t see a prompt to get your verification code

If you open a trusted 1Password app and don’t see the prompt to get your verification code, make sure the account you’re trying to sign in to in the new app or browser is unlocked.

Unlock the account, then wait a few minutes and restart the steps to sign in on another device. You can also contact 1Password Support for further assistance.
