Get help when you can’t install the 1Password extension in Safari.

About the message

If Safari can’t install the 1Password extension, you might have another version of the extension already installed or extra copies of 1Password.safariextz on your Mac.

Safari can't install this extension. An error occurred while installing the extension '1Password'.

What you should do

To resolve the issue:

  1. Uninstall the 1Password extension.
  2. Restart Safari.
  3. Reinstall the extension from the Safari Extensions Gallery.

If you’re still having trouble, remove old copies of 1Password.safariextz:

  1. Quit Safari.
  2. In Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder. Copy and paste the following path and press Return:

    ~/Library/Safari/Extensions
    

    Go to ~/Library/Safari/Extensions

  3. Move all copies of 1Password.safariextz to the Trash.

    Move all copies of 1Password.safariextz to the Trash

  4. Empty the Trash.

  5. Open Safari, and install the 1Password extension from the Safari Extensions Gallery.
