If you see “1Password has detected an error with your local app database” on your Mac

Get help if you see a message about an error with your local app database when you try to open 1Password for Mac.

You may see the following error message in certain situations when you try to open the 1Password app on your Mac, like after migrating from one Mac to another:

1Password has detected an error with your local app database, please contact support@1password.com.

A pop-up window that contains the '1Password has detected an error with your local app database, please contact support@1password.com' error message.

What you should do

If you see this message, contact 1Password Support and include any details about your Mac that may have changed, like if you used Migration Assistant to transfer your data to a new Mac. They’ll work with you to investigate the issue and share additional steps to follow.

If you use 1Password in your browser, you can temporarily turn off the integration with the 1Password app to continue using the 1Password browser extension while you work with 1Password Support to investigate the issue:

  1. Right-click the 1Password button in your browser’s toolbar and choose Settings.

    Get help if you don’t see the 1Password icon in your browser’s toolbar.

  2. Select General and make sure Integrate this extension with the 1Password desktop app is turned off.

After the issue with 1Password for Mac is resolved, you can safely turn this option back on.
