1Password.com server outage (October 2017)

Published:

About the outage

On the afternoon of October 30, 2017, 1Password.com became intermittently unavailable for short periods of time. The issue followed a scheduled maintenance on October 29, 2017, during which the database server was upgraded to the latest version of Aurora and moved to a larger instance with greater capacity.

Individual periods of downtime continued to recur throughout October 31, 2017. During the outages certain features were unavailable to 1Password customers.

What was affected

During the short periods of downtime, changes made to items didn’t sync between devices and the web app was unavailable for account administration and new sign-ups.

What you should know

1Password is designed to be resilient in the event of a service outage. During any outage, you can continue to unlock and use the apps even when a connection can’t be made to the server. During an outage, you can still:

  • view and edit data already on your devices
  • create new items
  • fill usernames and passwords

Any changes you make to items will sync when service is available.

What we’re doing

We worked with Amazon Web Services to restore full service and continue to monitor the situation.
