View and restore previous versions of items

Learn how to revert to a previous version of an item or restore an archived or recently deleted item.

With a 1Password membership, 1Password saves previous versions of items every time you make changes, so you can undo your changes. And when you archive or delete items, you can restore them.

To get started, sign in to your account on 1Password.com.

Restore items

To revert to a previous version of an item:

  1. Open the vault that contains the item you want to revert to a previous version.
  2. Select the item, and click “View item history”. Items are sorted by date with the most recent version at the top.
  3. Click View next to one of the versions. You’ll see the contents of that version of the item.
  4. Click Restore.

  1. Open the vault that contained the item.
  2. Click Archive in the sidebar.
  3. Select the item, then click Restore.

Restore a recently deleted item

To restore a recently deleted item:

  1. Open the vault that contained the item.
  2. Click View Recently Deleted in the sidebar.
  3. Click Restore next to the item.

To restore an archived or recently deleted item:

  1. Click Archive or Recently Deleted in the sidebar.
  2. Right-click the item, then click Restore Item.

You can recover items up to 30 days after you deleted them.

  1. Tap The Items tab, then scroll down and tap Archive or Recently Deleted.

    If you’re using an iPad, tap Archive or Recently Deleted in the sidebar.

  2. Select the item.
  3. Tap the ellipsis icon and choose Restore Item.

Manage permissions

If you’re a family organizer, you can choose who can restore previous versions of items in a vault:

  1. Click Vaults in the sidebar.
  2. Click the name of the vault.
  3. Click next to the name of the person whose permissions you want to modify.

Only family members with the Allow Editing permission can restore items in that vault.

Get help

Archived items are accessible any time from the Archive. Previous versions and deleted items are saved for one year.

Permissions can be changed in every vault except the built-in Personal, Private, and Shared vaults.

If you need to find a password that you previously used, check the password history for the item.

If you’re having trouble restoring an item in a family account, ask your family organizer to check if you have permission to view item history for the vault that contains the item.
