Set up trusted devices to unlock with Okta

Learn how to set up additional trusted devices and browsers to unlock 1Password with Okta.

Step 1: Sign in on a new device or browser

On 1Password.com

On the new device you want to authorize, sign in to your account on 1Password.com.

You’ll be prompted to acknowledge the enrollment by unlocking 1Password on any of your trusted devices and entering a verification code.

In the apps

Important

You must be using the nightly release of 1Password 8 for Mac to sign in with Okta.

Install the nightly release

  1. Open and unlock 1Password.
  2. Click your account or collection at the top of the sidebar and choose Preferences.
  3. Click Advanced, then set “Release channel” to Nightly.

    Updates will be installed automatically when “Install updates automatically” is turned on.

Sign in

  1. Click “Sign in with Okta”.
  2. Enter your sign-in address and work email, then click Next.
  3. Click “Sign in with Okta”. You’ll be redirected to Okta in your browser.
  4. Enter your Okta username and password, then click Sign In.
  5. After successfully signing in with Okta, you’ll be redirected back to 1Password.

    You'll be prompted to acknowledge the enrollment by unlocking 1Password on any of your trusted devices and entering a verification code.

Important

You must be using the nightly release of 1Password 8 for iOS to sign in with Okta.

Install the nightly release

  1. Download TestFlight.
  2. In the invitation email you receive from TestFlight, click “View in TestFlight”.

    The subject line will read "AgileBits Inc. has invited you to test 1Password 8 - Password Manager."

If you haven’t received a TestFlight invitation email, contact 1Password Support.

Sign in

  1. Tap “Sign in with Okta”.
  2. Enter your sign-in address and work email, then tap Next.
  3. Tap “Sign in with Okta”. You’ll be redirected to Okta in your browser.
  4. Enter your Okta username and password, then tap Sign In.
  5. After successfully signing in with Okta, you’ll be redirected back to 1Password.

    You'll be prompted to acknowledge the enrollment by unlocking 1Password on any of your trusted devices and entering a verification code.

Important

You must be using the nightly release of 1Password 8 for Windows to sign in with Okta.

Install the nightly release

  1. Open and unlock 1Password.
  2. Click your account or collection at the top of the sidebar and choose Settings.
  3. Click Advanced, then set “Release channel” to Nightly.

    Updates will be installed automatically when “Install updates automatically” is turned on.

Sign in

  1. Click “Sign in with Okta”.
  2. Enter your sign-in address and work email, then click Next.
  3. Click “Sign in with Okta”. You’ll be redirected to Okta in your browser.
  4. Enter your Okta username and password, then click Sign In.
  5. After successfully signing in with Okta, you’ll be redirected back to 1Password.

    You'll be prompted to acknowledge the enrollment by unlocking 1Password on any of your trusted devices and entering a verification code.

Important

You must be using the nightly release of 1Password 8 for Linux to sign in with Okta.

Install the nightly release

The packages are signed with the GPG key 3FEF9748469ADBE15DA7CA80AC2D62742012EA22.

Sign in

  1. Click “Sign in with Okta”.
  2. Enter your sign-in address and work email, then click Next.
  3. Click “Sign in with Okta”. You’ll be redirected to Okta in your browser.
  4. Enter your Okta username and password, then click Sign In.
  5. After successfully signing in with Okta, you’ll be redirected back to 1Password.

    You'll be prompted to acknowledge the enrollment by unlocking 1Password on any of your trusted devices and entering a verification code.

Step 2: Find your verification code

On 1Password.com

  1. On an existing trusted device or browser, sign in to your account on 1Password.com.
  2. Click your name in the top right and choose My Profile.
  3. Click View Code next to the new device listed under Pending Devices.
  4. You’ll see the six-digit alphanumeric verification code.
  5. Enter the verification code and click Submit, then click Done.

    Don't share your verification code with anyone. 1Password employees will never ask for this code.

After unlocking your account on 1Password.com, the browser will be listed as a trusted device and can be used to verify additional devices, unless you indicated it was a public or shared computer.

In the apps

Important

You must be using the nightly release of 1Password 8 for Mac to receive a verification code. 1Password 7 does not support Unlock with Okta. We recommend team members uninstall 1Password 7 from their computers and mobile devices before testing.

  1. After you sign in on a new device, open and unlock the 1Password app on your Mac.
  2. Click Allow on the Allow New Device pop-up.
  3. You’ll see the six-digit alphanumeric verification code.
  4. Enter the verification code and click Submit, then click Done.

    Don't share your verification code with anyone. 1Password employees will never ask for this code.

After unlocking your account in 1Password for Mac, your Mac will be listed as an Authorized Device and can be used to verify additional devices, unless you indicated it was a public or shared computer.

Important

You must be using the nightly release of 1Password 8 for iOS to receive a verification code. 1Password 7 does not support Unlock with Okta. We recommend team members uninstall 1Password 7 from their computers and mobile devices before testing.

  1. After you sign in on a new device, tap the notification from 1Password on your iPhone or iPad, then unlock the app.

    If you don’t see a notification, open and unlock 1Password.

  2. Tap Allow on the Allow New Device pop-up.
  3. You’ll see the six-digit alphanumeric verification code.
  4. Enter the verification code and tap Submit, then tap Done.

    Don't share your verification code with anyone. 1Password employees will never ask for this code.

After unlocking your account in 1Password for iOS, your iPhone or iPad will be listed as an Authorized Device and can be used to verify additional devices, unless you indicated it was a public or shared computer.

Important
