Important

Autofill support for Macs is currently in beta.

Before you begin, you’ll need to download and set up 1Password for Mac, then switch to the beta channel and update to the latest release.

Set up Autofill in macOS and Safari

Before you can use the 1Password app to save and sign in on your Mac, you’ll need to turn on support for Autofill for your Mac and in Safari:

  1. Open and unlock 1Password on your Mac.
  2. Select your account or collection at the top of the sidebar, then select Settings.
  3. Select Autofill, then select Set up macOS AutoFill > Turn On.

If you don’t see Autofill, you may need to lock and unlock 1Password to make it appear.

  4. Open Safari. From the menu bar, select Safari > Settings.
  5. Select AutoFill, then turn on User names and passwords.

Now, you can fill passwords and save or sign in with passkeys without opening the 1Password app.

If you also use the 1Password browser extension in Safari, login suggestions will now appear in the default Safari menu instead. The 1Password browser extension will continue to fill credit cards, addresses, and other items.
