Restore 1Password data from an iTunes backup of 1Password 4 to 1Password 7

Step 1: Install iExplorer

Get iExplorer. This will allow you to open your iTunes backup on your computer and copy your 1Password data from it.

Step 2: Open your iTunes backup

  1. Open iExplorer and click Continue with Demo.
  2. Click Browse iTunes Backups at the bottom of the screen. You don’t need to connect your iOS device.
  3. Double-click the most recent backup in the list. They should already be sorted by date.

Step 3: Copy the data

  1. Click Backup Explorer.

  2. Enter “onepassword” in the search box in the top right corner.

  3. Open App Group - group.com.agilebits.onepassword and drag the Data folder to your desktop.

    If your backup contains 1Password 4 data, the Data folder will be located in AppDomainGroup‑group.com.agilebits.onepassword > Library.

Step 4: Rename and restore the backup

  1. Open the Data folder on your desktop.

  2. Choose Edit > Select All.

  3. Choose File > Compress n Items.

  4. Select Archive.zip and choose File > Get Info.

  5. Change the file name to iTunes.1p4_zip and click Use .1p4_zip when prompted.

    Are you sure you want to change the extension from “.zip” to “.1p4_zip”? If you make this change, your document may open in a different application.

  6. Follow the steps to restore the iTunes.1p4_zip file into the current version of 1Password for Mac or iOS.
