How to change your Master Password

You can change your Master Password at any time, like when you want to make it stronger or if it was used for another account.

The password you use to unlock 1Password is called your Master Password. When you unlock 1Password, all your vaults are unlocked whether they are standalone vaults or vaults in 1Password accounts.

If you know your Master Password, you can change it at any time. If you forgot your Master Password, try to recover it.

If you have a 1Password account and no standalone vaults

If you only have one 1Password account, the password for that account will unlock 1Password. If you have multiple 1Password accounts, the password for the first account you added to the app will unlock 1Password. You change your Master Password on 1Password.com:

  1. Sign in to your account on 1Password.com.
  2. Click your name in the top right and choose My Profile.
  3. Click Change Master Password.

If you use 1Password on multiple devices, you may need to change your Master Password separately on each of them.
