If you started your subscription with an in-app purchase, you won’t be able to change your account type yourself. Contact 1Password Support.
Whether you’re branching out on your own, adding to your family, starting a new business, or rolling out 1Password to a large company, you can change your account type at any time.
If you have an individual account
If you have an individual account, you can upgrade to 1Password Families, 1Password Teams, or 1Password Business:
- Sign in to your account on 1Password.com and select Billing in the sidebar.
- Choose your upgrade option and select Switch plan.

If you have a family account
Upgrade to 1Password Teams or 1Password Business
If you have a family account, you can upgrade to 1Password Teams or 1Password Business. Sign up for a new team or business account, then migrate to the new account:
- Sign up for 1Password Teams or 1Password Business.
- Export your data from your family account, then import it into your new account. You can also move items between your accounts.
- Invite people from your family account to the new team or business account, and make sure they follow the steps to join the team and move their items.
- Delete your original family account. This will permanently erase the information for everyone in the account.

Switch to an individual account
You can change to an individual account if you’re the only person in your family account.
- Sign in to your account on 1Password.com and select Billing in the sidebar.
- Under “Individual,” select Switch plan.
To switch to an individual account, you must be the only person using your team or family account. Learn how to delete a family member's account.
If you have a team or business account
Switch to an individual account
If you’re the only person in your team or business account, you can change to an individual account.

- Sign in to your account on 1Password.com and select Billing in the sidebar.
- Under “Individual,” select Switch plan.
Switch to a family account
Important
If you switch to a family account, you can’t change your subscription back to 1Password Teams or Business. You’ll need contact 1Password Support for help.
If you have a team or business account, you can switch to 1Password Families:
- Sign in to your account on 1Password.com and select Billing in the sidebar.
- Under “Family,” select Switch plan.

If your team or business account has over 5 team members, you'll be charged for additional family members when you switch to a family account. Learn more about billing for 1Password Families.
Switch to a team or business account
If you have a team account, you can switch to 1Password Business. If you have a business account, you can switch to 1Password Teams.
- Sign in to your account on 1Password.com and select Billing in the sidebar.
- Choose your account option and select Switch plan.
Team Starter Pack subscriptions have a limit of 10 team members. If your business account has more than 10 users, you won't be able to switch to a team account. Learn how to delete a team member's account.
Get help
If you have an individual account and you need to join an existing family, team, or business account, ask the appropriate person to add you to the account:
- To join a family account, ask a family organizer to send you an invitation.
- To join a team or business account, ask an owner or administrator to send you an invitation.
