After you’ve created your account, you can add and remove family members at any time.
Sign in to your account on 1Password.com or open and unlock the 1Password app to get started.
Add a family member
In the 1Password apps
To add family members to your account:
- Click your account or collection at the top of the sidebar and choose Manage Accounts.
- Click the account you want and choose People, then click Invite People.
- Enter the email addresses for the people you’d like to invite, then click Invite.
When you invite a family member to your account, they’ll receive their own Secret Key and create their own account password to use on their devices. After each account is set up, you’ll receive an email notification. Click the link in the email to confirm each account or follow these steps:
- Click your account or collection at the top of the sidebar and choose Manage Accounts.
- Click the account you want and choose People.
- Click Confirm beside the name of each family member.
To add family members to your account:
- Tap the icon for your account or collection at the top left and choose Manage Accounts.
If you're using an iPad, tap your account or collection at the top of the sidebar.
- Tap the account you want and choose People, then tap Invite People.
- Enter the email addresses for the people you’d like to invite, then tap Invite.

To add family members to your account:
- Click Invitations in the sidebar.
- Click Invite by Email and enter their email address.
- Click Invite.
When you invite a family member to your account, they’ll receive their own Secret Key and create their own account password to use on their devices. After each account is set up, you’ll receive an email notification. Click the link in the email to confirm each account or follow these steps:
- Click Invitations in the sidebar.
- Click Confirm beside the name of each family member.
Remove family members
If you’re a family organizer, you can remove someone from your family account. Click People in the sidebar on 1Password.com to either suspend accounts temporarily or remove them permanently.
Suspend an account temporarily
To temporarily revoke a family member’s access to vaults and items, suspend their account:
- Click the name of the person you want to suspend.
- On their details page, click More Actions and choose Suspend.
Remove a family member’s account permanently
After you remove a family member’s account, they can’t sign in to 1Password, which means:
- They lose all the items in their Private vault. Because the items weren’t shared with any other family members, no one will be able to access them.
- They lose access to all shared items, including those in the Shared vault. This won’t affect other family members’ access to shared items.
To permanently remove a family member’s account:
- Click People in the sidebar.
- Click the name of the person you want to remove.
- On their details page, click More Actions and choose Delete.
Get help
Invitations expire after 5 days. You can resend an invitation at any time.
If a family member needs to transfer 1Password data from a former account after accepting their invitation to join the family account, ask them to follow these steps:
- Make sure they’re signed in to both accounts in one of the 1Password apps.
- Use the app to move or copy items from their former account into their new account.
- Sign out of their former account in the app.
After they transfer their 1Password data into their new account, they can cancel the subscription for their former account or choose to delete it.
If you need to change a family member’s name, click People in the sidebar, then click their name and click Edit Details.
